IT SERVICE DESK SPECIALIST ASSOCIATE

SUMMARY:
The IT Service Desk Specialist Associate is an entry-level position in the IT Service Desk that applies knowledge of information systems products and services to assist employees and/or Agents with hardware and software related problems, or system outages. Documents computer related problems and troubleshoots solutions as appropriate, escalating to other IT groups as needed.
Applies basic technical knowledge and is becoming proficient in using help desk tools and troubleshooting equipment appropriate for the position and specialization. Resolves routine questions and problems, referring more complex issues to higher-level Help Desk Specialists or other appropriate IT groups. Follows processes and established standards to resolve routine and newly documented issues.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports end users with IT related problems and issues.
Handles routine and newly documented calls directly from end users, and uses discussions with end users to identify and research IT related questions and problems.
Resolves routine hardware and software problems, and coordinates referrals to the appropriate technical resources (i.e., more experienced Help Desk Specialists, or other IT groups) for more complex problems.
Prepares and maintains the appropriate follow-up documentation, which includes logging tickets and updating the knowledge base.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree in an Information Technology discipline (e.g. MIS, IS, IT CNS, Computer Engineering, or Windows Networking Administration) is required.
A Bachelor's Degree in an Information Technology discipline (e.g. MIS, IS, IT CNS, Computer Engineering, or Windows Networking Administration) is preferred.
A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required.
Related work experience in a technical field, which could include assisting end users with hardware and software related problems is a bonus.

Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with others, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
The ability to translate technical terms into layman's terms.
Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
Good customer service skills.
Must have a general understanding of information systems with the ability to apply knowledge, as well as recognize research and resolve basic IT related problems.

This position will provide senior level engineering and design support for the Air Force VLMS system at several sites in CONUS.

• Provide Engineering and Design Support the Air Force at several sites within US.
• Provide script/signature development, new script testing, script and system update deployment, system maintenance, and other engineering support as required for the AF VLMS system.

Engineering Support Services Subject matter Expert

This position will provide senior level engineering support for all facets of the AFNet infrastructure and tools.

Highlights of Responsibilities:
Perform operational evaluations and problem resolution.
Perform operational evaluations, problem resolution, design, testing, and security assessment for these systems.
Perform liaison tasks between the various PMO offices and the operational users.
Represent the PMOs in meetings and conferences.
Monitor plans and schedules and perform program problem analysis for high risk programs.
Provide technical, system and installation services to relevant AFNet organizations, handle operational evaluations, problem resolution and assist in and/or perform system administration.

Job Description:

Provide Tier I contact and incident resolution to customers with hardware, software, and application problems. Attempts to resolve as many incidents during the first call, or at Tier I. Responsible for documenting incident status in incident database tools. Provides polite and friendly customer service. Working knowledge of computers, printers, laptops and common windows applications. And other duties as assigned.
Candidate serves as the Information Technology customer service specialist that performs a range of activities that contribute to overall customer satisfaction to the user base. Attention to detail and good organization skills are critical. Accurate incident documentation and tracking are important parts of the position.
• Provides basic help desk support for problems and service requests related to hardware, software, network/mainframe connectivity and application support.
• Acts as representative of technical services to its customers.
• Initiates, escalates or resolves problem tickets and/ or service requests. Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems, escalates to support resources. Facilitates closure to problem ticket/ service requests while meeting or exceeding defined service level expectations.

Job Description:

Duties include design, configuration, installation, test, and troubleshooting of IT systems primarily consisting of a Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange 2007, and virtualized environment throughout a geographically diverse enterprise.

 

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate must be process oriented and have strong technical writing and verbal skills. A Bachelor's degree in related discipline with 8 years of professional experience in design, implementation, and troubleshooting of the following technologies: Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory and Group Policy, Microsoft Exchange 2007, VMware, and HP server products to include HP c-Class Blade Systems and Flex 10. The candidate must Have Security+, or Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), or Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), or GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or have the ability to obtain within 60 days. Candidate must have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance.

 

Preferred Requirements:

MCSE 2003 or newer and VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certified. Strong knowledge of storage technologies are a plus.
